What experience do I need?
No experience is necessary to apply for a Freelance or Staff Writing position. We encourage and welcome all to apply. We are not focused on who you are or the writing skills you have today. Freelance Writer:
Experience:
No experience necessary.
Compensation: 1.15 cents per word.
Requirements:
- Candidates must be 17 or older
- Abel to work independently
- Able to meet deadlines
Description: Candidates are responsible for writing pieces on an as needed basis.
Staff Writer-
Experience:
No experience necessary with completion of three month probationary period.
Compensation:
$50 Signing Bonus, 1.75 cents per word plus company stipend
Requirements:
- Candidates must be 18 or older
- Physically fit enough to be on their feet for extended periods while covering or researching subject matter
- Able to travel locally by bus, train or El
- Able to work as a team and follow instructions well
Description: Candidates are responsible for researching and writing one 2,000 to 2,500 word piece every month. In most cases, candidates will be traveling with our award winning photographer and covering/researching monthly assigned subject matter.
Sr. Staff Writer-
Experience: Minimum 2 years experience including 1 year Senior Writing/Supervision experience
Compensation:
Dependent upon experience plus company stipend
Requirements:
- Candidates must be 21 or older
- Abel to supervise a team
- Able to meet strict deadlines
- Able to work overnights when need to cover late running events
Description: Candidates are responsible for writing word pieces on an as needed basis.
Field Reporter/Vlogger-
Experience: No experience necessary
Compensation:
$25 per segment plus company stipend
Requirements:
- Candidates must be 18 or older
- Physically fit enough to be on their feet for extended periods while covering or researching subject matter

- Able to work as a team and follow instructions well
- Able to work overnights when need to cover late running events

The company stipend includes:
- company issued Ventra card to cover transportation cost while conducting research or providing coverage
- company credit card for authorized use only
- Starbucks card for use as mobile office while conducting research or providing coverage

It sounds like a great opportunity, but no job is perfect. What's the catch?
The catch is you will have to work hard to succeed. Yes, traveling around to research & write about different places and events is exciting and creating an original intellectual product is extremely fun. However, anything worth doing is not always easy. It will take a significant amount of time to produce and build a body of work, promote it, build a following for your work and turn it into profit. It will not happen over night.
However, If you are able to set yourself apart from the crowd, the end result can be very rewarding.
I have had legal/disciplinary issues or I have said some things or have videos about me online that stigmatize me. Will that prevent me from qualification?
No, not at all. You are a human. Humans make mistakes. We believe in second chances and in most cases, third or fourth ones too. It's O.K. to have said or done things that you regret, that have been misconstrued or are unpopular. We're really not concerned about the silly Anti-Bush or Anti-Obama comment you made, whatever embarrassing video or any other speech or action deemed offensive by some. Just be honest and tell us.
Disclosure is key. We will address any concerns we may have with you and evaluate your situation fairly, on an individual basis. To error is a human quality, to forgive and accept does not seem to be.
